Improving the Performance of Porous Concrete Composites Using Zeolite as a Coarse Grain
Porous concrete is a mixture of cement and water that may contain fine grains, which play a role in water transfer and permeability. Porous concrete can act as a drain to pass rainwater and recharge groundwater. In this study, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% zeolite were used to replace the coarse aggregates in porous concrete. The effects of the zeolite on the compressive strength, permeability coeffi...

A calcium-binding, asparagine-linked oligosaccharide is involved in skeleton formation in the sea urchin embryo
We have previously identified a 130-kD cell surface protein that is involved in calcium uptake and skeleton formation by gastrula stage embryos of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus purpuratus (Carson et al., 1985. Cell. 41:639-648). A monoclonal antibody designated mAb 1223 specifically recognizes the 130-kD protein and inhibits Ca+2 uptake and growth of the CaCO3 spicules produced by embryonic...
متن کاملPantropic retroviruses as a transduction tool for sea urchin embryos.
Sea urchins are an important model for experiments at the intersection of development and systems biology, and technical innovations that enhance the utility of this model are of great value. This study explores pantropic retroviruses as a transduction tool for sea urchin embryos, and demonstrates that pantropic retroviruses infect sea urchin embryos with high efficiency and genomically integra...
متن کاملThe sea urchin genome as a window on function.
The emphasis on the sequencing of genomes seems to make this task an end in itself. However, genome sequences and the genes that are predicted from them are really an opportunity to examine the biological function of the organism constructed by that genome. This point is illustrated here by examples in which the newly annotated gene complement reveals surprises about the way Strongylocentrotus ...
